Dear Friends
In April I will be running the London Marathon with the goal of raising $5000 for autism research.
As this will be my first race running for a charity I wanted to find a program that would have the greatest impact on our lives and communities. Autism affects 1 in 88 children, that's a huge number and speaking about this with friends and neighbors I'm finding out that almost everyone knows someone who is affected by autism spectrum disorder. In fact more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined.
Raising a child with ASD has many challenges, such as the financial burden of continuous medical costs and added psychological stress of care giving for an individual with a developmental disability. By helping me reach my goal you would would be easing this burden by providing the funds needed for increased autism research.
For families dealing with ASD, programs such as earlier detection of ASD and greater autism awareness are vital to maintain. If we can do that then we can help improve the lives of many children.
