Hello Friends and Family!
I have recently been selected to run for the Run for Autism team to raise funds for the Organization for Autism Research (OAR). I'll be running the London Marathon on April 23rd 2017, and 100% of the proceeds will go to OAR (we'll be paying our own way). This is a great honor for me. I have seen firsthand how difficult it is on families living with Autism, and I know how desperately research is needed in this area. And in light of current events, we know how critical good information is.
Why Autism? Back in 2002-2004 when I was living in England, I worked for the National Autistic Society, the UK's leading charity for Autism and Asperger Syndrome. It's estimated that at least 1.7 million individuals in the U.S. are grappling with this disorder. The signs of Autism become apparent by the time a child is 3 years old. There is no known cause, there's no cure (yet!) and information out there is plentiful but overwhelming, unstructured, confusing and even misleading. However, research provides hope and the promise of a better quality of life for those affected.
The OAR is a national nonprofit that is dedicated to funding targeted research and pilot studies, as well as providing the organization and structure in disseminating the application of the information. It is the only Autism organization that focuses solely on applied research.
I am asking for your support please. 100% of the money raised will go to the OAR. Again, Matt and I are paying our own way.
