Hello! This is Ashlyn. She is our snarky, supportive, sympathetic, bundle of energy wrapped in sarcasm and dipped in talent.
David & Jennetta (Ashlyn's parents) are participating in the Rock-n-Roll Vegas 1/2 marathon & 5K this November and have pledged to raise $2000 for Autism Research.
Our team is asking for your support to help us surpass this goal by donating and/or sharing this link with others.
She belches with gusto and can banter Futurama quotes with her brother and father with practiced precision.
She loves Lada Gaga and Adele and sings passionately from the shower.
She plays Minecraft and adores DanTDM.
Her favorite foods include cheese pizza, Sprite, and.....cheese pizza. However, thanks to food therapy, her diet now includes 10 starches, 7 fruits / vegetables, and 7 protiens!
A few years ago Ashlyn met a young friend, whose name just happens to be, Ashlyn Checketts. Best friends with the same name. When Ashlyn found out this other young lady shared her name, she started referring to her as "My Clone".
Ashlyn also falls on the Autism Spectrum (ASD). She reads at grade level, yet she does not like to make eye contact with most people. She has a near photographic memory, yet she's highly sensitive to loud noises. She has severe texture sensitivity, particularly when it comes to food, yet she tries new foods when we ask her, even though she may hate it.
These are just a few symptoms / indicators / personality traits of individuals who fall on the Spectrum. We were fortunate that she was accepted into the special education system where she thrived under the extreme love and care of Miss Berry, her beloved teacher for three years and now a cherished family friend. We were blessed beyond belief when she was accepted into Spectrum Academy, a charter school that specializes in students who fall on the Spectrum.

The family went to Yellowstone this year. Payden and Mom ran a 5k!
Until recently, Health Care Providers were not required to cover Spectrum Disorders, so we did what all other families with loved ones on the spectrum did, we paid cash for therapy and prescriptions that allowed Ashlyn to have a somewhat normal life.
Diagnoses of ASD are now covered by health plans, however, we still have a long way to go to better understand and support those who are on the Spectrum.
