My desire to run for OAR comes from spending time with a girlfriend and her family. Seeing the love, patience, and respect that exists within that family: for her boys and between her and her husband, is something I have never witnessed before. The oldest boy, demonstrates symptoms of Autism, and on several occasions, when he was startled, would respond in unconventional ways. Many people would view his reactions negatively and respond with anger or embarrassment but his parents would ignore all of that and respond with care, love, and patience. His two brothers would respond in similar manners because this is who their brother was, nothing to be ashamed of.
My hope is to help raise not only money for this organization and their research into the fascinating facades of autism but also raise awareness for the stress that it can create in families touched by Autism and their need for support and understanding.
