Hello, friends! Welcome to my fundraising page! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to pair two things that I am passionate about: running and my sweet brother, Jonathan. On October 27, 2019, I will join thousands of runners in the Marine Corps Marathon as a member of the RUN FOR AUTISM team!
As many of you know, Jonathan, is the light of my life and my greatest blessing. About seven months into Jonathan’s life, it was discovered that he was not hitting typical benchmarks such as head circumference and developmental milestones. Thus, it was necessary to establish early intervention where dedicated and compassionate therapists worked with Jonathan to help him, as well as our family, to cope with the delays present in his development. Through the work of these dedicated therapists and later, dedicated teachers, it became apparent that Jonathan displayed many of the characteristics common of those on the autism spectrum. Jonathan thrived during his time in the Bethel Park School District and was surrounded by the most wonderful teachers and caretakers. He went on to become involved in organizations such as Challenger Baseball and the Walk for Autism by way of Autism Speaks. In his spare time, Jonathan may be found riding his bicycle built for two and attending Pitt games with my dad. With the help of my mom, Jonathan fills his days by bringing light to the employees at the Bethel Park Public Library, reading to young children at the Carnegie Daycare, and volunteering his time at Meals on Wheels, Light of Life, Bethel Bakery, and Asbury Heights Nursing Home.
In short, it is a privilege to have this sweet boy in my life! He has taught me to be thankful for every milestone and accomplishment, to pass no judgement on any other person, and to live each day with an open, patient heart. This race is for Jonathan! I will be thinking of his sweet smile as I hit each mile marker! His love will carry me through!
